Not just an object in the room

A piece shouldn't just sit there. I want my work to elicit a sense of wonder and delight; arouse your curiosity, make you want to examine the details to see how it's made and how it feels to touch.

Make It Last

For my furniture, I like the look and feel of reclaimed barn wood - preferably oak. Whatever the piece, when I use wood in my work, I want it to last at least long enough to allow a new tree to grow.

Put A Little Magic In It

When I design a vanity, I pay close attention to the flow of the water in and out. The valve handles are often distanced from the spout to increase the "magic" -  turn a handle here, and the water comes out over there. Simple things that make a difference.

Beauty without interest is merely pretty...

"There was a time when I was focused on precision and detail. Now I don't want to use anything more precise than a hatchet and a sledgehammer.  Although some precision is necessary, I'm not overly concerned with straight, square, flat, etc. I'm good with "sorta straight", "sorta flat", and so forth.  In the course of my work, I simply let the imperfections contribute to the beauty, interest, and character of the piece."
